Help & guidance

This page explains how to read documents, navigate efficiently, and use the accessibility tools we provide. If you don't find what you need here, please contact us.

File formats you may encounter

PDF (.pdf)
Most notices, tenders and forms are published as PDF. Adobe Acrobat Reader is recommended. It is freely available from get.adobe.com/reader. Most modern browsers can also open PDFs directly.
Word documents (.doc, .docx)
Word documents can be opened with Microsoft Word, the free LibreOffice Writer, or Google Docs. We are progressively converting Word documents to PDF for wider compatibility.
Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
Excel files can be opened with Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or Google Sheets.

Navigating the site

How do I navigate the site?
The primary navigation at the top of every page links to all major sections. Use the search box to find a specific notice or service. The sitemap lists every page in one place.
How do I use the keyboard?
Press Tab to move forward through links and form fields, Shift+Tab to go back, Enter or Space to activate, and Escape to close any dropdown or menu. A "Skip to main content" link appears at the very top when you press Tab.
How do I change the language?
The language switcher in the utility bar (top of the page) is powered by Bhashini, the Government of India's translation service. Choose any of the 22 official Indian languages.

Accessibility tools

How do I make the text larger?
Use the A−, A and A+ controls in the utility bar to decrease, reset or increase the text size up to 150%. Your preference is remembered for future visits.
How do I switch to high contrast?
Use the "Contrast" button in the utility bar. This swaps the page to a high-contrast black-on-white palette designed for visitors with low vision.
Does the site work with a screen reader?
Yes. The site is built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. See the Accessibility Statement for a full account, including the assistive technologies we test against.
